Abstract Expressions of Empathy Series (2025 - )
I begin work on this series of paintings with intent and hope of sharing, understanding, and sympathy with all who suffer cruelty, heartlessness, and uncertainty living on this magnificent planet. I make these art works with hope the paintings might be a means of extending self to others with kindness and love instead of harboring multitudes of heavy sorrows alone, which can only build to an ineffective leaden and meaningless DEAD-END.
Series of Interludes (2017 - )
In the midst of the long Trolly Trail series, I take time to paint without focus on theme. I call these paintings interludes as each is spontaneous, playful, and experimental as each piece, on its own terms, interacts with other Interludes and with me. In other words, the medium seems to rule, which is a pleasure, quite lovely and relaxing. Though there are both old and new themes and ideas nagging at me, I may dwell with these Interludes for some time . . .
Trolley Trail Series (2016 - )
In being with and in celebration of the Trolley Trail in Kansas City beginning in 2016 and continuing into the present, I walk a segment most days of the trail. Inspired by these walks, I create collages, collagraphs, paintings, photographs, in medium best for capturing a particular moment. The walks—as I open and smile at being in the middle of an open green space with others—take me from myself and my questions to a margin where I might interact and participate in a meaningful and perhaps beautiful manner one with other. The works, simple notations of all this, vary from small to large as I incorporate found objects, trail fragments, thoughts, surprises, impressions, hopes, experiemnts, worries, elations, glimpses, and meditations, each unique unto itself yet common with the life of the Trolley Trail in all its dimensions.
